Welcome to Menomonie Matters
Welcome! My name is Joyce Uhlir and I am a candidate for Menomonie City Council, Ward 6, in the April 5, 2022 election. I hope that you will vote for me.
This is Menomonie Matters, a newsletter about local news and my views and ideas for a better Menomonie.
My family moved to Menomonie’s River Heights neighborhood from Orlando, Florida in 2007 so my husband, Jim, could take a job at Stout. As a stay-at-home mom, I homeschooled my children until the youngest graduated this year, leaving me an empty-nester with some time on my hands. I decided to call my self, at this point, “retired.” :)
A picture I took of the family just after moving to Menomonie from Florida. Those trees were amazing! And then, of course, winter came. . .
My journey into local politics
In about 2019, feeling that there was not much I could do to improve the national political scene, and heeding the wise words of my mother,
“Pay attention to local politics! Those guys can zone you for a pig farm in your backyard.”
-- Mom
I started showing up at meetings and paying attention. Especially to City Council and school board meetings. It was hard to get information about what was coming up at meetings. Groups who were mobilizing their people into showing up and speaking out about their pet issues were exerting a great deal of power over local government.
I am a Christian and a conservative. Someone needs to speak loudly right now for Faith, Family and Freedom. It seems many things are happening in cloudy, administrative darkness that need to be brought into the sunshine and dealt with. I will be talking about some of those things in this newsletter.
What you can do . . .
And vote “Joyce Uhlir” for City Council on April 5.
